Reinhard,
In fact, I feel that Fyodor and Wojtek are frustrated. And I can feel that frustration myself.
This frustration comes because we *know* how good Component Pascal is. We *know* how small the things are that BB needs to be the top of the hill. Yet those small things are outside of our power to do. And OuS does not react in any way to
our suggestions. They don't say "good idea", they don't say "nonsense", they don't say "no money, sorry". They just ignore it.
I tried to introduce BB in the company I work for. The officials were ready to officially buy it and use BB instead of VB and VC++. They just wanted a demonstration on how fast an application communicating with existing software on PC,
Linux and IBM Host (via MQ) could be created.
And while I just started writing interfaces, both VB and VC++ programmers had already completed the task. So I said, OK, but when I have my interfaces, then I'm a lot faster! We tried anew. And while I was busy trying to make BB do things
that are special for windows and not directly supported by BB, they had already completed the task.
And that's the problem. Yes, as long as we stay 100% in the BB, doing things is fun and fast and easy. But don't you dare to need things that are special to Windows.
JAVA, VB and VC++ have large libraries for thousands of tasks. Yes, those languages are all stupid, but they are oh so many lightyears ahead of us, when it comes to support. Full support for Windows and DLLs (without the need to write
lengthy interface modules) would take away this backdraw.
But this would mean that people at OuS would have to leave the Ivory Tower and see what is needed in the real world. And I could eat my imaginary hat for the shortsightedness in not doing it.
(stepping down from my imaginary soapbox and quitting the preacher mode)
Rene
