Java has unicode characters as its support for
internationalization on the language level and not much more.
Pretty much the same as CP but with more elaborate escapes
for special characters in string literals.
Number and Date formats are a matter of library classes.
So we should not mix that up and I hope that nobody
proposes to introduce localized keywords and the like...

Languages which support internationalization, such as Java and the
Microsoft .NET framework, don't seem to have any problem doing this.
