Like Doug suggested a few days ago, an ounce of competition works
better than a hundred pounds of pounding. OuS may have realised
they are losing the edge not only compiler-wise, but also
with respect to the framework and general vision. This will soon
project back to their core consulting business. Who will hire
a company that stays behind? Forget us BB users, but if OuS do not
upgrade their flagship tool soon, and in the most decisive way
as well, their consulting businees will be in jeopardy. In case BB
does not get to the technological forefront fairly soon, OuS
lucrative customers will see it through as soon as .net becomes
the mainstream technology.

OuS in fact have little choice but to push BB forward. They have been
sleeping too long, and now the loop is closing on them. Thank goodness
they seem to be getting the message at last. A bit too late, but they
still have a chance if they act quickly and with vision. I am a bit
skeptical concerning the latter because of the track record where the
vision seemed to be lacking, but lets hope for the best.

As for ourselves, I think it is not a bad idea to keep the Gardens
Point discussion alive also in this mailing list, for the purpose of
dangling the naked sword a little bit. If the two are in fact competing,
it can only bring good things. As we may realise, the real foe is not
the competitor but our own sleepiness. It is good to remind that the
competition may be getting a bit less sleep, and doing so may be getting
ahead.
