Re: frozen heads, tabs, petawatts, etc.

I completely agree that CP would be excellent for science, as
would Active Oberon. I think I'm typical of the vast
majority of programmers, in that programming is only a small part of my
job. I need something that does the job, simply and reliably.
My job is also to kick OMS. I'm sick of most other languages.
I'm sick of their complexity. I'm tired of programs that don't work and
compilers with errors. I don't even want to write GUI applications,
although I do need interactive display of data.
But I can't blame those who refuse to consider CP. I can't afford
to buy into a dead end, and neither can they.
I don't agree for a moment that money is the problem. Worthism
is the problem. Lack of money didn't stop Phillipe Kahn. The guy who
wrote Turbo Pascal didn't give a fig about standards, but he wrote
something people needed and could use. Kahn convinced a prominent
computer magazine to run a full page ad on credit, and Turbo Pascal was an
overnight success because it filled a huge need. I'm still using Delphi,
because that's what I can get that recycles all that Pascal. I'd buy into
CP in an instant if I thought it were going somewhere and I could figure
out how to use it. I'd like it even better if it were portable. Maybe
Gardens Point CP or Active Oberon for .NET from ETHZ will work out.
Well, maybe I won't switch. I've been waiting 15 years or so, and I'm out
of time. But that shouldn't stop other people.
So I don't buy the money argument. There's plenty of money
available. What's needed is the imagination and determination to capture it.
Sincerely,
Rex Couture
