Yes they do.
If you need to process 10^7 events, no MatLab is going to help you.
On the other hand, Fortran is fast but very limited, Mathematica can do some high-level things -- but is horribly inefficient, and is known to produce outrageously incorrect results, sometimes, because of the complexity of tasks it tries to handle.
There are problems in between, is where CP shines.
