To generate public key is very easy with 'putty'. You do not need the Unix for this.
Here you will find step-by-step manual.

Gitorius experience
usr:
psw:
CON: Needed to verify email by receiving an activation link that gave no feedback that the
link had changed anything. It just put on back at the Gitorious home page. I logged in
with my info and that worked. Poor human factors design.
CON: It seems to need a public SSH Key. Not sure why but I can guess.
When I went to the site ( ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub or ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub) which Gitorious suggested
to obtain an SSH key I ended up at Google search list with
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ssh-keygen
as one of the options.
Skimming that article forces me (back) into the Unix world which I dearly wish to avoid.
Hence Gitorious is NOT platform independent but is heavily tied to Unix.
