If I am not mistaken, we are hitting the operating system restriction
rather than BB restriction. Not being an expert I can only point out that
similar problems are also present under Linux, as discussed in Chapter 8
by Corbet et. al. (Linux Device Drivers). It seems to me that a solution
would require a 64-bit platform, and even these are not quite devoid of
memory management issues according to Corbet et al.
