Bernhard,
I was able to solve the problem after a comment by Marc at Omi.
I deinstalled the paint windows component and then reinstalled it.
Inserting and editing new bitmaps in Blackbox now works correctly.
Some application must have corrupted my registry.
Thanks for the effort!

Hi Doug,
since nobody replied ...
hmm, when I (Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]) insert
a paintbrush object and try to "edit" it, according to the
task manager no pbrush.exe is running, but mspaint.exe.
Searching the registry for pbrush.exe finds me the
following keys:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\pbrush.exe]
{([at]})nowhere.xy
,\
73,70,61,69,6e,74,2e,65,78,65,00
"Path"=hex(2):25,53,79,73,74,65,6d,52,6f,6f,74,25,5c,73,79,73,74,65,6d,33,32,
\
00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Embedding]
"PBrush"="Paintbrush-Bild,Paintbrush-Bild,pbrush.exe,picture"
Since the first part of the export is quite unreadable, I append a screen
shot of the resp. fields.
Nothing more can bve found for pbrush.exe, but searching for
mspaint.exe yields the appended registry file. Beware, some
of the menu entries are in german, and I've left out some
stuff, which was apparently intimately related to file extensions.
Despite of that it is an awful lot of entries ...
Hope that helps ...
regards

Subject: [BlackBox] - Lost Ole bitmaps
Hello,
I can no longer edit embedded bitmaps.
Old bitmaps still appear correctly.
The file pbrush.exe still exits and works correctly when clicked.
Bitmap images no longer occur in the list of Ole objects when I do an
'Insert Object'.
So I assume my registry has been changed by program (e.g. MS
Word uninstall, OpenOffice install, GolfCaddie install).
What do I need to do to restore 'bitmaps' to the 'Insert Object' list?
