As far as I remember, System-3 had several flavors running under
host OS, similar to the way oberon System V4 did. I still have
one of System-3 implementations installed. It runs on Windows.
No dual boot required. Other OS's were supported in a similar
way. Native was just another such layer, but there were many
others. Portability used to be one of strong points of both
the V4 and the System-3.
Another point: System-3 is lead by Juerg Gutknecht, who is a computer
science professor and therefore would understand your situation
very well. I heard that JG was always very open. I suspect he would
support your portability initiative.
