Look back 1000 years. Why all that obscurantism?
Factor in the fact that the humanity has not become a single bit smarter
in the past 30K years -- and you have the answer.
There is peer pressure -- and there are objective pressures.
The primitive instinct is to run with the crowd. Humans, of course,
bla-bla-bla about why they follow the crowd, but the truth is, it's simply
the lemming instinct. Unless there is a pressure of objectivity (e.g. in
my case the problems did not want to be solved in any other way), the
instinct wins by a big margin.
Education -- especially high-school level -- is the critical point.
But to do something there one must convince teachers and education
burocrats who ... exactly like 1000 years ago.
