In the Commodore Amiga days, Modula-2 became very popular there, in fact becoming THE language for programming games. Of course, modula- 2 could do far more, but it was this niche where M2 prospered the most.

Perhaps "personal programming" is the domain for BB? This seems right but BASIC is also a personal programming tool and yet is far more limited than BB/CP. I would definitely not want to put BB/CP in the same camp as BASIC.
As a scientist I can do everything I need to in BB/CP but then I don't have any pressure to 'produce' (I'm semi-retired).
Examples of use:
o Building local models of quantum entanglement using the detector efficiency loophole.
o Building crude models of gas dynamics for interactions with a rotary engine.
o Simulating Jeff Hawkins' "On Intelligence" in the domain of speech.
o Keeping records of my golf scores and updating my handicap over the last 10 games played.
o Beginning to consider implementing LISP in BB/CP so that I can implement REDUCE (symbolic mathematics)
in order to have a hand held notebook where I can scrawl equations and have them verified
(same as Mathematica with handwriting recognition but available to everyone)
etc.
I would hate to do such things in C++ or Java.
