In this same vain, I have been cutting way back on the magazines to
which I subscribe and instead reading them on-line. I have piles of
unread stacks which weigh a ton and take up space.
So see, I do agree with you! except ...
The human mind stores things "in context" and hence chunks of info
removed from a surrounding bath are more difficult to recall and
mentally link to other bits of information. The context can be
inconsequential such as a random pattern of bits surrounding a picture
but the mind remembers those bits and uses emotion associated with those
bits to help recall the topic at hand.
"Now, that chunk I was reading, was it about FORTRAN, C, or Component
Pascal? Ah, the cover of the book was green so it must have been ..."
