All:

  I wish to thank everyone for valuable comments and suggestions
concerning the FPU. At our end, the battle continues. Before
trying to tweak BB, we first tried updating National Instruments
software drivers that caused the problem in the first place.
Doing this was a mistake. As soon as we upgraded to the newest
(greatest) NIDAQmx, the entire data acquisition system ceased to
acquire any data. Based on our previous experience with NI software,
we should have known better not to touch it. So now we are recovering
from the upgrade. As soon as we restore their drivers to working order,
we will start tweaking FPU exception handling.

Did I mention NI by name? I probably should not. Let's speak of
a "well known vendor whose software is both the instrument
and a disaster". They are extremely successful in the marketplace,
though.
