Yes the work is ongoing within a restricted small team of developers.
It is motivated by specific physics projects in the around-CERN community.
So the first priority is to make BB run in a GUI-less mode on a Linux server,
with BB controlled remotely via TCP/IP.

We are also identifying a minimal subset of API calls to the underlying OS
in order to maximally isolate BB from the nightmare that Linux is
with all the available variants and versions on the GUI front.
Most probably, an autonomous implementation of controls will be implemented to decouple the fine tool that BB is from the mentioned nightmare.

Presumably, this work, when completed, would facilitate a subsequent port to MacOS,
about which it's hard to say anything at the moment,
but an interest there is.

It is critical to produce a working tool for use in the physics community
-- once that is made available and its advantages made obvious,
the amount of participants, tackling adaptation issues, is to be expected to expand significantly.
