Folks,
I just read an article on slashdot about AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript
and XML) where applications are running on your desktop from web pages
(ala GoogleEarth).
I detest the development environments for Java (only tried two).
So I occurs to me that it might be useful to emulate the Blackbox
development environment in Java. That is, we write Component Pascal in
Java (yes, yes, efficiency issues). In that way the cleanliness of
Component Pascal is preserved and the extensive platform independence of
Java is gained.
I think I am saying more than generate java byte codes from Component
Pascal (which I believe OMI already can do). I want the BlackBox
environment in a platform independent form that is compatible (at the
module/package level) with other existing Java applications.
(Maintaining the look and feel of the OS on which BlackBox runs I feel
was a strategic mistake since it forced much too much dependency upon OS
operating system calls,e.g. Windows, and hence made/makes it difficult
to port Blackbox. Notice how rapidly the Oberon V4 System spread to
different Operating Systems).
End of thought.
