Dear Cuno:

I think you most clearly explained the current OuS situation.

I have a naive suggestion to the community. I am an old-timer
who still remembers Turbo Pascal of its pre-Delphi days.
The suggestion is the following. Do you still remember Turbo
Power Tools manufactured by TurboPower Software? They partnered
with Borland. Right after every release of the Turbo environment,
TurboPower Software would release their own suite of excellent
tools, which significantly enhanced the Turbo Pascal environment.
These tools were excellent. I used two editions and I loved them.

If you can check out http://www.turbopower.com you will see
that the company is still there, and still partnered with Borland.
The formula has not changed.

Hence, the suggestion: why not take this as a lesson. OuS will
not do certain things, and Cuno explained why. On one hand,
as we all agree, the BB environment has a tremendous potential.
However, as we also seem to agree, certain things are missing.
Well, it looks like a business opportunity, does it not?
A for-profit business opportunity, for that matter. And I think
this is good. For-profit opportunities are good in my opinion.

As with every such opportunity, it would need to be carefully
analyzed along usual business guidelines (size of the market,
potential for profit, etc.) I do not think one should just
dive into this suggestion nose-first. On the other hand,
I suspect that business analyses usually yield expected results:
positive for the believers and negative for non-believers.
If anyone would seriously believe it, the opportunity would
probably look good.

Any believers? I am one, but I am a physicist, not a programmer,
so I can only contribute very little.

Good night,
