You might be able to use Excel spreadsheets via ODBC and the Sql subsystem. ODBC includes Excel drivers which respond to a subset of SQL commands. I haven't used this method personally and don't have time to investigate over the next few days, but it might well be worth looking into.

Robert,
Yeh, I was afraid of that.
"Module Xcl provides utilities for opening or creating, reading and editing MS Excel Spreadsheets, using the Black Box OLE Automation Interface to the MS Windows operating system. The interface is compatible with Excel version 8.0 and above. Modules importing Xcl will also require to import the CTlExcel and CtlT modules."

On second thoughts ...

This might be useful if you have Excel, but I guess it
may not a way of using Excel files without Excel.

I have just remembered that there is a (documented) module (Xcl)
and a 'Demo' module in subsystem Lib on Cpc.

I have not used it myself, but it might be a useful option. I know the
author has used it extensively.

Folks,

I have another possible small task for a client that entails
using Excel.
I have an Excel reader on my machine and so can see their data.
But when attempting to run the ObxExcel example I get

ObxExcel.ShowExcel
cannot open excel object

So I guess I really don't have the code for Excel.
Must I spend gobs of money ($400+) to acquire Excel or is there
some other way that I can access their data via BlackBox?
