I am not sure this efford would be appreciated by the linux community.
 On some web page about BSD I read: "Linux adherents just hate
 Windows, BSD folks like UNIX." That has the C compiler at it's core.
 I SUSPECT that C is sort of a holy cow for the Linux kernel crew as
 well.

Perhaps so. But Oberon OSes have one advantage: They are safe by
 insignificance, since no hacker kids would believe it to be evil or
 cool enough to hack one. Linux on the other hand, much like Windows
 XP, is comparatively safe because most (obviously not all)
 vulnerabilities have been found and fixed over time.

Casting way be a wonderful method to quickly circumvent any problem.
 As long as you know what you do it allows you to safe a little
 runtime needed to perform type checks. But that is in general not a
 wise decision and I believe it to be a terrible method to build a
 software system upon. This feature seems to be so popular, that
 Microsoft did not remove it from the relatively sane (by MS
 standards) C# language.
