Hi,

well, yes, you are quite right to point this out, and I must admit that I
have never read it through in the way I've read the original Oberon
documentation. As a result I can't really offer any useful criticism of the
content.

I won't try to excuse or justify myself, but I will try to offer a reason:
online and printed documentation are very different things altogether. The
case study is more suitable as printed documentation than online. If it was
available as a printed book, I would almost certainly buy it, just as I
bought Hannes Marais's 'The Oberon Companion' rather than read it online or
print it on a work printer.

For some situations a properly typeset and printed book is easier and more
convenient for me. For instance, I can read it on the tube on the way to
work. Or when I'm using BB I can refer to it more conveniently when it is in
my hand than when it's on the screen. Large tracts of text are not
well-suited to online use. Printing the entire thing is very difficult. My
home printer is too slow and poor quality; it takes too long at work, and is
slightly sinful in such quantities. Most importantly, the format and size of
such documentation is not as convenient as a real book; real books are
rarely A4 and great care is taken about the published format for good
reasons.

Regards,

Bob

Bob, but they do provide the "Case study..." book, seven chapters in
total. Just look at Help->Content. What is wrong with this? Is it not
the kind of the overview that you are talking about?

I am myself not a big fan of the module-by-module documentation,
and I must admit I do not like the "Case study..." either, but let's
try be more specific. If we all seem to agree the BB docu is not perfect,
where is the imperfection? What's missing in their "Case study" and how
it could be improved?

Wojtek
